Project Update

The National Steering Group has endorsed a change to the governance of the project at it's June meeting. The Workplace Implementation (WIWP) and Curriculum Learning Resources Working Party (CDLWP) have completed their work. These working parties have been replaced by three new working parties:

1. The Vertical Integration Working Party (VIWP) -  established to promote the vertical integration of the ACF at both the undergraduate and postgraduate training levels. This working party had its first meeting on 25th November. The working party is chaired by Prof Fiona Lake and they are currently working on establishing their Terms of Reference and initial projects.

2. The Teaching and Education Working Party (TEWP) - has been established to address the training of junior doctors, educators, supervisors and administrators necessary to see sustainable implementation of the ACF. It is anticipated that gap areas will be identified that will enable targeted work on resources to assist supervisors in implementing these areas of the ACF. This working party will be chaired by Assoc Prof Terry Brown and has its first meeting on 7th December.

3. The Project Officer Working Party - has been formalized and is now officially under the project governance. This group has been meeting informally as a group of state based ACF project officers. The POWP is chaired by the National Project Coordinator, Ms Debbie Paltridge. Work to date has included the development of a discussion paper on the link between the ACF and PMC accreditation systems. This paper will be circulated for comment shortly. There are also preparations underway to implement a National Survey of DCTs and MEOs regarding the ways in which the ACF is being used. Pilot data has been collected and it is anticipated that the survey will be implemented in late January after orientation programs have been completed. The information gained from this survey will be invaluable in planning future support of medical educators in the implementation of the ACF.

The fourth group is the Assessment Working Party which has had a busy year implementing the pilot of the National Assessment Tools. The results of the pilot were presented at the recent 14th National Forum at the Gold Coast.  The CPMEC executive committee has endorsed the adoption of a national assessment process and further work will be undertaken in 2010 in preparation for implementation in 2011.

The AWP undertook two workshops at the National Forum in which JMOs and Supervisors were provided with an opportunity to view JMO performances and compare their rating of these performances. This has been in response to feedback from the pilot program where a similar calibration exercise was highly regarded. Although the attendance was smaller than anticipated the feedback was very positive and it is felt that the DVDs which have been developed for this purpose will be an invaluable resource in the implementation of supervisor assessment training.

Membership and Terms of Reference for each of the groups can be viewed on the ACF pages of the CPMEC website www.cpmec.org.au

ACF Revision

The revised ACF version 2.2 was launched at the 14th National Forum. Informal feedback on the new booklet format has been extremely positive with many junior doctors at the Forum indicating to the National Project Coordinator (NPC) that this was an improvement on the previous format. The Term Description Template has been updated to reflect the new version. Changes to the website are progressing and we are hoping to have these finalised by early in the New Year. CPMEC is funding a copy of the new booklets for each intern in 2009. PMCs can purchase additional copies for PGY2s and IMGs.

ACF Booklet Cover

In addition there is a brochure and poster format - both of which can be viewed on the CPMEC website at http://www.cpmec.org.au/Page/acfjd-project Orders for the poster can be forwarded to the National Project Cordinator dpaltridge@cpmec.org.au

Website Update

The ACF pages of the website have been updated to reflect the changes in governance structure and with a PDF of the ACF revision.  The ACF website pages will be updated with the new version by the end of Feb 2010.
